Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine to Host Research Seminar, May 6

Alison Bested, M.D. will be the guest speaker at the Research Seminar on May 6.

NSU College of Medicine’s Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine (INIM) will host its latest session of its Research Seminar Series on Friday, May 6.

Join the INIM in the Chancellor’s Dining Room in the Terry Building from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Light lunch and beverages will be served.

The INIM will host Alison Bested, M.D., clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Medicine. Bested, trained as a haematological pathologist, also cross-trained in clinical and laboratory hematology, immunohematology, genetics, and anatomic pathology. For the past 25 years, her medical specialty practice has been dedicated to patients with complex chronic medical conditions including myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity, and persistent Lyme disease.

Working in Toronto and Vancouver, Bested was chosen by Health Canada to participate on the Expert Medical Consensus Panel that wrote the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Clinical Working Case Definition, Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols in 2003. The consensus definition is known worldwide as the Canadian Consensus Criteria. She has coauthored 2 books: Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, in 2008 and The Complete Fibromyalgia Health Diet Guild and Cookbook, in 2013. She was one of the authors of the 2014 ME/CFS Primer for Clinicians, published by the International Association of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

With Lynn Marshall, M.D., Bested also coauthored a “Review of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome published in the Reviews of Environmental Health.
