Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine Hosts Monthly Seminars, April 7
The INIM is pleased to host Paula Waziry, Ph.D., assistant professor at the INIM, at the monthly INIM Research Seminar Series on Friday, April 7, 12:00–1:30 p.m. at the Center for Collaborative Research on the 4th floor, room 440.
Waziry holds B.S. and M.A. degrees in biochemistry from the City University of New York and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Miami. Her research focuses on cell biology and environmental factors that influence mechanisms of pathogens-host interaction.
Her thesis work explored mechanisms of oncolytic virus interactions with nuclear pore complex components and lead to pioneering concepts of host evasion that are now accepted as common cytopathic viral strategies. Waziry’s work is cited in several virology textbooks and her publications have been internationally recognized by the Faculty of 1000 as one of 10 best papers of the year in 2005 and 2007.
Her post-doctoral work (with patent approved in 3/2016), proposes a bimodal use of cholesterol-modifying drugs as adjuvant therapy for priming of cells and subsequent treatment of cancer cells with oncolytic viruses. Waziry also holds adjunct faculty position at the Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography where she teaches Genetics, Neuroscience and Microbiology.
Join us as he lectures on “Mechanism of Partial Viral Reactivation Might Trigger ME/CFS” You won’t want to miss it!
