Get Inspired & Support Special Olympics Athletes at Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K on May 2
Get inspired and be a part of the amazing journey of more than 800 local Special Olympics athletes by participating as a runner, walker, or “virtual runner” in the fifth annual Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Run/Walk. The race will take place on May 2 at NSU.
The event benefits Special Olympics Broward County (SOBC), which provides FREE athletic programs to enrich the lives and improve the confidence of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Through sports training and competition, Special Olympics athletes develop physically, socially, and psychologically.
The race begins at 8 a.m. with check-in starting at 6:15 a.m. in the Miniaci Courtyard. Local Special Olympics athletes will be on hand to participate in the race, cheer on runners, and present medals. The 2010 race is also being held in memory of Agata “Ida” Sallarulo, George “Bob” W. Gill, Jr. and Melvin Zarefsky.
Sallarulo’s Race for Champions 5K Run/Walk was created by Paul Sallarulo, a member of the NSU Board of Trustees, to raise money for Special Olympics Broward County. In the past four years, the event has raised more than $1.6 million to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics.
This year organizers are hoping to raise an additional $700,000. These funds ensure that SOBC can continue to provide FREE athletic programs to the more than 800 local participating athletes.
