Information about Worker’s Compensation Benefit

The Florida Worker’s Compensation Law is interpreted as assuring a quick and efficient delivery of disability and medical benefits to an injured worker. Worker’s Compensation benefits facilitate the worker’s return to gainful reemployment, and provide prompt delivery of benefits to the injured worker. Employees are covered by worker’s compensation from their first day on the job. There is no waiting period for eligibility for worker’s compensation benefits.

As an employee of Nova Southeastern University who suffers an injury/illness arising out of and in the course of employment you must advise your supervisor, Risk Management, or HR contact of the injury/illness immediately, but no later than within 30 days after the date of, or, initial manifestation of the injury/illness. Failure to report the injury/illness in the noted timeframe could result in the denial of the claim under certain circumstances. Injuries/Illnesses must be reported to Risk Management using the pertinent forms found online at http://www.nova.edu/cwis/fop/risk/forms/workers_comp.pdf.

Self referral for medical treatment, exception of an emergency, or after hour urgent/emergent care could result in denial by the insurance company.

The Risk Management Office has enhanced its website to include the below information. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with our site, and send us your feedback. Your safety is our goal!
