Huizenga Business School Dean Featured in ‘Critical Conversations’ Article

Dean D. Michael Fields, Ph.D.

The South Florida Business Journal recently continued their “Critical Conversations” series with a five-page feature on Education in South Florida. Huizenga Business School Dean, D. Michael Fields, Ph.D., participated in a panel discussion with other leaders in education.

Panelists responded to many topics mentioned by the Journal’s editor and education writer, including: the biggest issue for your schools, whether legislative cuts to education funding have affected the quality of schools, if the funding situation sometimes penalizes high-achieving students, whether there is a disconnect between the skills taught by universities and the skills sought after by employers, and whether the average high school graduate is prepared for college-level coursework.

Dean Fields said that “We have to respond more quickly to marketplace needs and employment needs. The last thing we all want, as educators, is to have our graduates come out and not be able to find jobs.”
