The NSU College of Health Care Sciences’ Departments of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy and College of Pharmacy recently conducted health screenings at the Sistrunk Festival at Mill Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale. Students and faculty members, including Nicole Quint, D.O.T., OTR/L; Bini Litwin, D.P.T., Ph.D., M.B.A.; Devada Singh-Franco, R.Ph., Pharm.D., CDE.; provided screenings and educational materials on subjects like pediatric development, posture, vital signs, diabetes medication review, and diabetes counseling for children, adults and seniors attending the festival. More than 35 festival participants were screened, with several attendees receiving recommendations for follow-up care with their physicians. Students had an opportunity to work collaboratively to foster inter-professional communication and understanding of each discipline’s respective role. They also were able to apply skills and knowledge they acquired in the classroom.
