HPD Mourns Passing of Two Notables
On July 22, Stanley Cohen, Ed.D., a longtime NSU-KPCOM professor and executive vice dean for educational support at NSU’s Health Professions Division, passed away at the age of 90 after a short illness.
Cohen’s affiliation with the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine began in 1980 when he was hired by the college to be its chair and professor of humanities and behavioral science. During his incredible career, Cohen did it all, from being a high school biology teacher, college professor, principal, and superintendent to being a successful entrepreneur and published author of numerous books, including the acclaimed My Time with Einstein.
Arnold Melnick, D.O., M.Sc., the founding dean of the NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and the former executive vice chancellor and provost of the Health Professions Division, passed away on July 12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 98. During his 70-plus-year career, Melnick earned his respect as a pediatrician, writer, and university administrator.
