Houston Astros Examiner Profiles NSU Alum J.D. Martinez

On March 2, 2012, Houston Astros Examiner Stephen Goff wrote this profile on NSU Alum J.D. Martinez after he signed a one-year contract with the Astros. Martinez had a successful run through his rookie year and will start in Houston’s outfield in 2012. Below is an excerpt and a link to Goff’s article.

Martinez, a 20th-round pick by Houston in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, immediately turned heads by recording 28 RBI in the month of August — the most ever by an Astros rookie in a calendar month.

It marked the second-highest total in August by a rookie in National League history behind Todd Helton (29) and David Justice (29).
