Hot Topics in Psychology Series Closes Semester with Showcase of Student Research, Apr. 14

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences and NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies will conclude the Hot Topics in Psychology series for the winter 2011 semester with a presentation titled “The Influence of Psychological Stress on Health and Memory: Focus on Undergraduate Research.” Presented by Jaime Tartar, Ph.D., associate professor in the college, the event will take place on Apr. 14 from 12 – 1 p.m., in the Carl DeSantis Building, room 2060.

This discussion will include a review of several undergraduate research projects on psychological stress. Combined, these projects aim to understand and explain the complex relationship between chronic and acute stress, and their individual and combined roles in influencing the body’s processes.

Hot Topics in Psychology is an annual, free brown-bag lecture series that enables students to gain a first-hand perspective of research in specific areas of psychology and also serves to open up potential scholarship collaboration among students and NSU faculty members. Those attending are encouraged to bring their lunches to the talks, providing their own “food for thought.” Pizza also will be served.

For more information, please contact Jaime Tartar, Ph.D., associate professor in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, at 954-262-8192 or Sarah Valley-Gray, Psy.D., associate professor in the Center for Psychological Studies.
