Honor Outstanding Educational Leaders & Students at Fischler School’s Seventh Annual Carrie P. Meek Awards, Feb. 24

The Black Heritage Council of NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services will celebrate Black History Month with the Seventh Annual Carrie P. Meek Outstanding Education Leadership Achievement Award Ceremony.

The event is a salute to exemplary community members who continuously and positively impact the lives of African-Americans in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. The ceremony will be from 6 – 9 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Signature Grand, 6900 State Road 84, Davie.

The award ceremony is held in honor of former Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek’s work as a lifelong educator and public servant, and draws hundreds of educators, government officials, and community leaders from the tri-county area each year.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Salome Thomas-El, education contributor on The Dr. Oz Show, author of I Choose to Stay and The Immortality of Influence, and source on the Oprah Radio Network. Special guest speaker Dennis Bega, Senior Advisor in the U.S. Department of Education, will join Thomas-El to discuss ways of “Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders.”

The awards dinner will include recognition of community leaders, and the presentation of the Outstanding Student Leadership Scholarships. These awards recognize elementary, middle, and high school students who have excelled in academics, extracurricular activities, and community or school leadership.

Tickets to the Seventh Annual Carrie P. Meek Outstanding Education Leadership Achievement Award Ceremony are $50 per person, or $500 per table. Proceeds benefit the NSU Fischler School’s Black Heritage Council Scholarship Fund.
