Helping the Homeless: An Ongoing Commitment for Osteopathic Medical Students
For a group of NSU College of Osteopathic Medicine students, every Thursday evening is a special kind of date night. That is when several second-year students turn their attention to community service. The students volunteer at churches affiliated with HOPE South Florida—a Christian nonprofit organization that provides hope for the homeless and families in need throughout the Christian community.
Working as a coordinated team, the students make sandwiches for delivery to homeless shelters, help restock pantries, and distribute clothing to the homeless. The students enjoy participating in the weekly efforts and said the act of service helps them realign themselves with the core values of osteopathic medicine.
