Halmos Undergraduates Help Broward County Legally Blind Adults
On May 4, 2017, Halmos Associate Professor Mark Jaffe, D.P.M and three undergraduate biology students travelled to The Learning Center for Vision Impaired Seniors Broward County Florida, to present helpful health summer health updates to their patrons. Supervised by Jaffe, B.S. biology students Alexa Israeli, Mithun Mathew, and Kaleigh Neidig presented health topics that included skin protection from the sun, smoking risks, good nutrition, and foot myths. The students’ interactive presentations concluded with a question and answer segment.
The Halmos presentations were part of the community outreach speaker series for The Learning Center for Vision Impaired Seniors of Broward County Florida is located in Sunrise, Florida. Founded in 2003, it is a community elder services center that provides education, support, and socialization for blind/legally-blind adults/seniors.
