Hosa1

This summer, Halmos Junior Vanessa Cruise, a biology and behavioral neuroscience double major won 2nd place in the Florida state HOSA Medical Terminology competition . The purpose of the competition is to encourage HOSA members to improve their ability to identify, spell, define and apply the prefixes, suffixes, roots and anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and occupations related to the health community.

Ms. Cruise qualified for the international competition, but was unable to attend due to conflicts. Ms. Cruise states, “It was a thrilling and rewarding experience, and I would definitely recommend other students to try and compete, you never know where it will take you.” Biological Sciences faculty member Mir Saleem, M.D. teaches the course, Medical Terminology (BIOL 2600) at Halmos College.

HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE (Association for Career and Technical Education).
