Halmos Graduate Students Bring Home Research Awards from National Conference
From March 27-30, the 47th Benthic Ecology Meeting (BEM) was held in Corpus Christi, Texas. The event had awards in four student areas: Best Oral Presentation, Best Poster Presentation, People’s Choice Oral Presentation, and People’s Choice Poster Presentation. Halmos College master’s student brought home half of these prestigious awards! Kelly Habicht Pitts and Megan Bock were the judge’s choice awards for Best Oral Presentation. Kory Enneking won the People’s Choice Poster Presentation. Hannah Nylander-Asplin won the People’s Choice Oral Presentation. All are master’s students in the reproduction and evolutionary ecology laboratory under Halmos faculty member Nicole Fogarty, Ph.D.
BEM is hosted by the Benthic Ecology Meeting Society (BEMS) is a non-profit organization established to run an annual meeting to exchange scientific information focusing on marine benthic ecosystems (e.g., rocky intertidal, coral reef) and to foster the next generation of benthic biologists. BEM was hosted by Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and boasted over 320 registered participants.
