NSU’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography Faculty Shares the Stars with Students
Halmos Faculty members Stefan Kautsch, Ph.D. and Bryan Armentrout, Ph.D. celebrated the moon and the stars with First-Year Seminar students and the Alvin Sherman Library. Hosted by librarians Nora Quinlan and Craig Amos, the First-Year Seminar students organized the party on November 2 in conjunction with the Alvin Sherman Library’s NASA Lunar and Meteorite Sample Disks Display.
Star Party First Year Students
Over 100 people attended the “Star Party”. Named because of its space-themed decorations, informative sessions, and cosmic music, community families, friends, and students got the chance to view a variety of celestial objects up close through several telescopes; objects such as the Moon, Saturn, constellations, and stars like Polaris and Vega, and so much more! “I am excited to see such a great turn-out of our community to learn more about space, while having my students engaged with this service-learning project” Kautsch, Ph.D., said.
The Lunar and Meteorite samples were on display from Wednesday, November 1 — Tuesday, November 7 at the Alvin Sherman Library. The First-Year Seminar students are part of Kautsch’s, Ph.D, UNIV-1000 course.
