Halmos Faculty Reappointed as Federal Fisheries Advisor

Kerstetter Tech Sharkbyte

In January 2019, Halmos faculty member David Kerstetter, Ph.D. was reappointed as Technical Advisor to the U.S. ICCAT Advisory Committee (IAC). The IAC meets twice per year, usually in the Washington, D.C. region. Kerstetter has served on the committee as a Member or Technical Advisor since 2007.

This is a federal appointed position that helps set U.S. international management and policy positions in the Atlantic. The International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) oversees the conservation and management of a variety of Atlantic marine species, including tunas, swordfish, marlin and sharks, and adopts measures to minimize bycatch of turtles and seabirds associated with these fisheries. This responsibility is shared among ICCAT’s 52 members, including the United States.
