Halmos Faculty Presents the Deep Sea to Broward County Middle and Elementary Schools

Deep Sea

During midterms’ week this October, Halmos faculty member Tamara Frank, Ph.D. with Ruth Musgrave from WhaleTimes, Inc. did 28 workshops in various Broward County elementary and middle schools.  Over 600 students were able to experience “Deep Sea in the Deep Sea”. Teachers could choose the presentation they wanted: Deep-sea Vision and Camouflage, Bioluminescence, or DNA set to music.

These workshops were given as a part of Dr. Frank’s National Science Foundation grant, “Evolution of Bioluminescence and Vision in Deep-Sea Crustaceans”. Part of the grant’s requirements is to make the research comprehensible to K-6 students.
