This summer Halmos faculty member Jacilynn Brant, Ph.D. and her student, chemistry major Jake Bence, participated in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) HBCU/MEI Summer Research Program. As part of this program, Dr. Brant and Jake worked in the Chemical Sciences Division in the Nanomaterials Chemistry Group. There they conducted research on metal-organic framework-templated hard-matter catalysts. Mr. Bence also presented a poster entitled, ““Synthesis of MOF-templated Mixed-Metal Oxides for Catalytic Carbon Monoxide Oxidation” at the 2017 Summer Research Participant Poster Session.

Located near Knoxville, Tennessee, Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. The objective of this 10-week program is to increase the number of collaborations and to foster long term relationships between ORNL and HBCU/MEI schools.
