Halmos College Student Wins Prestigious Florida Sea Grant Scholarship

Ian Towne

Halmos College MS student Ian Towne has received one of 10 2018 Florida Sea Grant Elise B. Newell Scholarships. A marine science major, Towne received $1,000 for travel expenses to present at a conference. His research focuses on age growth patterns of hogfish in southeast Florida in order to better understand the life history of the species and the impacts of spearfishing on the population.

Florida Sea Grant is a university-based program with a mission to support research, education and extension to conserve coastal resources and enhance economic opportunities for the people of Florida.
