On Saturday, March 17, Halmos Faculty member Mark Jaffe, D.P.M. hosted the 12th annual Halmos College Spring Injection and Suturing Workshop for pre-health profession students. Held in the Park building biology labs, this three-hour workshop taught students to perform three common injections: Intradermal (ID), Subcutaneous (SC) and intramuscular (IM) on pig’s feet. Students learned how to prevent needle stick injuries. After learning how to perform these injections, students used pig’s feet to practice common suture techniques such as simple interrupted and continuous suturing. Students also learned how to create surgical wounds and how to close them.

Attending this workshop were 18 Pre-Med students, 10 Pre-SOMA students, 16 Pre-Dental students, and 1 Pre-Physical Assistant student. Jaffe was ably assisted by two professional graduate students: Devin Henry M1 College of Osteopathic Medicine and Ronak Bhagat D1 College of Dental medicine. In the tradition of our core values, each undergraduate student donated a non-perishable food item and a hygiene item for the privilege of participating in the workshop. Following a 10-year tradition, these items were then donated to several local charities.
