Halmos College Hosts Physical Oceanography Seminar, Feb. 14

Filipot SharkbyteOn Thursday, February 14, at 4pm, the Halmos College will be hosting a physical oceanography seminar at the Oceanographic Campus. Entitled, “Observing Giant Breaking Waves from a Lighthouse at Sea” by Jean-François Filipot, Ph.D.

Jean-François Filipot is a civil engineer who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Western Brittany (France) on the parameterization of wave breaking in numerical ocean wave models. After a postdoc at University of Hawaii dealing with ocean wave transformation across fringing reefs, he moved back to France where he is now working at France Energies Marines as the Scientific Director. His current research interests mainly focus around the observation, modeling, and understanding of wave breaking in stormy seas with application to the design of marine renewable energy (MRE) converters.
