Halmos College Hosts 4th Annual OSTEM Summer Camp
This past June, the Halmos College welcomed 20 students from South Broward High School’s Ocean STEM summer camp to the Oceanographic Campus. The students worked with Halmos faculty and graduate students on growing corals, mapping invasive species, and working with sea turtles. In addition to their time at the Oceanographic Campus, the students visited the Alvin Sherman Library to learn how to use NSU’s marine science research databases and the Marine Environmental Education Center to meet “Captain” and learn about sea turtles. The week culminated with a day-long shark tagging trip sponsored in part by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida.
The OSTEM camp is an innovative summer program designed to allow students to explore marine career fields and do research investigations centered on marine and aquatic environments.
