GSCIS Alumnus Named New Jersey Educator of the Year

Barbara Strickarz presented the New Jersey Educator of the Year award to Randall Palmer.

Randall Palmer, Ed.S. in computing technology in education (2003) from NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, has been named the New Jersey Educator of the Year during the Association of Schools and Agencies for the Handicapped (ASAH) Annual Conference held in November 2008.

Prior to the conference, Palmer was named the ASAH Region 1 in Northern New Jersey Educator of the Year. As a computer specialist for The Children’s Institute (TCI), a private not-for-profit educational institution, he teaches students with Autism ages 3-21 computer skills infused in their curricula. Palmer has supported his teachers by securing widespread use of the web-based subscriptions of multimedia curriculum resources. He has provided consultation and training to secondary students to develop multi-media social stories by using programs such as Garage Band and podcasting. His efforts further extend to ensuring that TCI’s programs are running, as well as purchasing new materials, writing grants and keeping the school’s equipment up to date.

Most recently, Palmer presented during the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC) in January 2009, a session entitled “Serving the School Community through Digital Storytelling.”
