GSCIS Alumni Holds First-Ever TED Talk on Cyberethics for Kids

Ben Halpert, alumni of NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS), recently presented at TEDxKids@Vilnius, the first-ever TED Talk on Cyberethics for kids. The event hosted a curated audience of 300 educators passionate about discussing what and how to teach future students as well as provided 50 kids (6 to 12 years old) with workshops with leading thinkers, innovators and education experts from all over the world.

Halpert completed his M.S. in Management Information Systems in 2011 at GSCIS. He is Vice President, Risk and Corporate Security for Ionic Security and Founder and President of Savvy Cyber Kids, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization he founded in 2007 to provide cyber awareness resources for parents and teachers of our youngest learners, as well as innovative resources to assist parents and teachers as children grow up online.

Halpert is an award-winning author of several books for diverse audiences. He has written and continues to expand The Savvy Cyber Kids at Home series of books that include The Family Gets a Computer, The Defeat of the Cyber Bully, and Adventures Beyond the Screen. The series has won awards including Mom’s Choice Award, The Dove Foundation Seal of Approval, The Toy Man Award of Excellence and The Toy Man eChoice Award. For those in the business field, Halpert has published Auditing Cloud Computing: A Security and Privacy Guide (July 2011) through John Wiley & Sons.

Ben Halpert presents world-wide at schools, conferences, and wherever groups of concerned and involved parents and teachers request his insight on raising kids to be empowered with technology.
