GSCIS Alumna Receives Florida Department of Education Grant
Traci Reed, Ph.D
Traci Reed, Ph.D., in computing technology in education (’05) from NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS), has been awarded a Developmental Education Initiative Redesign Sub-Grant from the Florida Department of Education.
Reed is a professor of mathematics and curriculum coordinator on the Palatka campus of St. Johns River Community College (SJRCC). She is also the principal investigator of Math Redesign for College Readiness, which is the project that won her the three-year grant.
The goal of the project is to redesign three college preparatory mathematics courses so that students can take shorter, more individualized courses that will better address their specific developmental math deficiencies. The redesigned modular courses will help create a workforce context to make the math concepts more relevant to students.
Reed completed her dissertation in computing technology in education at NSU in August 2005. Her investigation focused on the same population with whom she is currently working at SJRCC. Under the mentorship of Trudy Abramson, Ed.D., Reed developed an online learning environment to enhance the acquisition of basic skills and improve retention rates of adult education students.
