GSCIS Alum Honored for Excellence in Teaching

NSU Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS) alumnus Jon P. McKamey, Ph.D., was recently awarded the House-Bruckmann Award, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College’s most prestigious honor for excellence in teaching. 

McKamey earned a BA degree in Radio/TV/Film and a Master’s degree in Educational Media from Indiana State University, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in computing technology in education from NSU.

At Cincinnati State, he leads the college’s instructional support technologies program, helping faculty incorporate Blackboard and other tools to improve the learning experience for students in classroom and online settings. 

McKamey is also active in the life of the college, serving on the First Year Experience Advisory Committee, Distance Learning Advisory Council, Peer Mentoring Advisory Committee, Professional Development Committee, Academic Technology Committee and the Commencement Committee, among others.

McKamey completed his dissertation in November 2008:  “Smart Classroom Technology: Instructional Effectiveness and Faculty and Student Satisfaction.”  His advisor was GSCIS professor Trudy Abramson, Ed.D.
