Green New Year’s Resolutions

Here’s a few ideas to get you go green for 2011!

Start a compost heap: By composting, you reduce the amount of waste you send to sit in the landfill, where it contributes to the earth’s atmospheric carbon dioxide – the major contributor to global. Plus, compost is very useful for gardening.

Bring a mug and reusable utensils to work: Those Styrofoam cups and plastic utensils you use at work make a ton of waste over time. Personalize with you own mug and reduce your waste by bringing washable utensils to work.

Replace standard light bulbs with CFLs: It may not be worth the waste to replace all your standard light bulbs now, but when they burn out, replace them with CFL bulbs to lower your energy consumption. Save some money, and the environment.

Get your car a tune up: Not only does a tune up make your car safer to drive, but when your car is running at peak performance, it produces lower emissions and gets more MPG.

Buy locally produced food: The less distance your food has to travel, the better; it means less gasoline, less emissions, and less transport costs. Plus, you supports your local producers and economy.

Buy organic food: Organic foods (not to be confused with “natural” foods) don’t have pesticides and promote ecological balance in the environment.

Recycle as much as possible: At home or in the office, there are so many ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. It may be the easiest and most impactful way to go green.
