Governor-Elect Rick Scott Appoints NSU Health Professions Division Chancellor to Education Transition Team

Fred Lippman, R.Ph., Ed.D., chancellor of NSU’s Health Professions Division.

Fred Lippman, R.Ph., Ed.D., chancellor of NSU’s Health Professions Division (HPD), was appointed on Dec. 2 to serve on Florida Governor-elect Rick Scott’s Education Transition Team. Lippman, who oversees six colleges at HPD – osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, optometry, dental medicine, medical sciences, and allied health and nursing – was one of 18 people selected statewide to join the team.

Calling the members of his latest transition team “Champions for Achievement,” Scott put together an experienced and distinguished team of education experts to help him find innovative ways to create a new education system for a new economy, according to his staff. The transition team will assist Scott in identifying innovative ideas from the private sector, success stories from other states, cost-saving opportunities and legislative priorities that will help reduce the size of government, improve the education system in Florida, and meet the workforce needs necessary to create 700,000 jobs over the next seven years.

A community pharmacist for over 20 years, Lippman has been widely recognized by academic and health care societies and has held important leadership positions in professional organizations. Among his numerous awards and activities, he is the 1986 recipient of the American Pharmaceutical Association’s Hubert H. Humphrey Award for Excellence in Pharmacy, a past President of the Broward County Pharmacists Association, and a former Speaker of the House of Delegates of the Florida Pharmacy Association. He joined the College of Pharmacy in 1987 as vice president for pharmaceutical affairs. In 1989, he was promoted to vice president for external affairs for Southeastern University of the Health Sciences. In 2004, Lippman became the chancellor of NSU’s Health Professions Division.
