Go Red This Month & Take Care of your Heart

heartThe month of February is associated with love, Valentine’s Day, and the color red. As you read this article, reflect on love. Who have you shown love to so far today? Have you behaved in a manner that shows that you love yourself? It is not too late to tell a co-worker how much you appreciate them or give a hug to a family member. It is not too late to show that you love yourself by eating a heart healthy meal and taking a walk.

Women are at an especially high risk of heart disease and stroke but do not always take time out for themselves to have the appropriate tests and screenings for the early signs of heart and cardiovascular disease. Take action.

1. Plan a meal of Salmon, quinoa, leafy greens, and fresh strawberries dipped in dark chocolate.
2. Take a 10-20 minute walk in nature.
3. Make an appointment for a complete physical with your physician.
4. Check blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol levels.
5. Find out if your weight is in the healthy range.
6. Take time out to meditate and find stillness.

Make every day “Valentine’s Day” by giving yourself and others the gift of heart health.
