Give Kids A Smile Day, Apr. 14

On Saturday, Apr. 14 children from low-income families will receive free dental services from NSU’s College of Dental Medicine. Known as “Give Kids a Smile Day,” the event will provide several services to children between the ages of 2 and 18, including X-rays, exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and restorations. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at NSU Health Care Centers’ Dental Clinic, located at the corner of 30th Street and University Drive in Davie.

“Give Kids A Smile Day” is an annual national event sponsored by the American Dental Association. Each year, thousands of the nation’s dentists and volunteers provide free oral health care services to over 400,000 children from low-income families.

Last year, NSU’s College of Dental Medicine provided an estimated $125,000 worth of dental care to the children. This year, there will be more than 200 dental students and faculty volunteers at “Give Kids A Smile Day.” In addition, children will receive free toothbrushes and enjoy a festive atmosphere with face painters, magicians, music, and the giant “Timmy the Tooth” mascot.

More than 16 million children nationwide have tooth decay and NSU’s “Give Kids A Smile Day” hopes to raise dental health awareness.

The College of Dental Medicine has received approximately 200 referrals from the Boys & Girls Clubs in South Florida and local Broward County elementary schools.  Children who were not referred by these two organizations should pre-register for the event.

To register and receive reminders, please contact NSU dental student Amanda Buscemi at (954) 300-2122 or email GiveKidsASmileDay@gmail.com.
