Gilda’s Club Fundraising Event is High Wire Act
Gilda’s Club South Florida will host its 4th annual Over the Edge for Gilda’s, the only rappelling event in Broward County. This year, the high-profile event that has captured the attention of thrill-seekers county-wide will go back to the beach, where the first two events were held, to rappel down the side of the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach. Qualifying participants—those who have successfully raised $1,000 for the cause—will rappel 13 stories down the side of the hotel.
The event is open to everyone in the South Florida community. Nova Southeastern University has been a longtime partner with Gilda’s Club and one of the sponsors of the event.
“Over the Edge for Gilda’s is an exciting opportunity to find your inner daredevil and push the limits while supporting Gilda’s Club South Florida,” shared Gilda’s Club CEO, Shelley Goren.
There are 90 rappel spots available. Those interested in going Over The Edge for Gilda’s can register either as an individual or as a team at http://gildasclubsouthflorida.org/page/Over_The_Edge_For_Gildas/47/30/
All of the proceeds raised from the event will support Gilda’s Club South Florida and will ensure that the support groups, lectures, workshops, specialized children’s and teen programs, and social events offered remain available to its members free of charge. Gilda’s Club, named in honor of comedian Gilda Radner, is a free, nonprofit cancer support community. The mission of Gilda’s Club is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. Our innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities. Gilda’s Club South Florida has been providing programs to those living with cancer and their family and friends since 1997.
