A Geological Perspective on Global Climate Change, Nov. 4
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Math, Science, and Technology will continue the new Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series with “Global Climate Change—A Factual Review from Geological and Climatic Perspectives.” Presented by Paul Baldauf, Ph.D., associate professor in the college, this lecture will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4, from noon to 1:00 p.m., in the Parker Building, room 338.
Scientists have constructed nearly continuous records of climate change, back to at least one million years ago, using a variety of research tools and data. Understanding paleoclimate is crucial to calibrating climate-change models and for anticipating environmental changes that will occur as the Earth’s mean surface temperature continues to rise.
This talk reviews evidence for climate change from geological and paleoclimatic records, including stable isotopic studies, records of continental glaciation, sea sediment data, and data from the Vostok ice cores.
The Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series aims to increase the understanding of the science behind and impact of climate change. Experts in related fields from within NSU and other institutions are featured speakers. The series gives faculty members and students the opportunity to discuss the scientific, technological, and policy aspects of climate change.
