NSU host Global Conference on “Socio-Medical Issues in Aging”, Ends Feb. 8
This may be the end of the world as we know it. By 2017, it is expected that adults older than 65 will outnumber children younger than 5 for the first time in recorded human history, according to the National Institute on Aging.
In order to address important issues related to this population shift, the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Geriatric Education Center is pleased to announce its Seventh Annual Interprofessional Geriatrics Training Institute: “Socio-Medical Issues in Aging.” The conference is scheduled for February 7-8, 2014 on the main campus in University Park Plaza, 3424 S. University Drive.
The conference will include seminars related to the physical, mental, and public health of the aging population led by experts from around the world, including the United States, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. Areas of focus include seminars related to specific populations, such as the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT), black, and Hispanic communities, as well as illnesses like Alzheimer’s and dementia that are prevalent among the elderly. Other seminars will address senior living facilities, art therapy, hospice care, and compulsive hoarding.
Anyone who has a vested interest in the senior population, including health care professionals, government officials, students, educators, and business owners are invited to attend. NSU students receive complimentary admission with advance registration.
