Garcia goes in the 17th round, while Fernandez and Castellanos are selected in the 25th.

Garcia goes in the 17th round, while Fernandez and Castellanos are selected in the 25th.

Nova Southeastern University had three student-athletes taken in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday, June 10 as Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.), Alexander Fernandez (Sr., Davie, Fla.) and Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) were selected. Garcia was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 17th round, Fernandez by the Marlins in the 25th round and Castellanos by the Tigers in the 25th round.

“This is great for our entire program, seeing players develop in our system and be prepared for success at the next level on and off of the field,” said head coach Greg Brown.

“This is a very exciting time of the year for many aspiring amateur baseball players and I am most certainly happy and proud of our young men who will or could have the opportunity to pursue their dreams as a professional,” said Director of Athletics Mike Mominey. “Our baseball traditions run deep here at NSU and this is yet another day that we can all share in the successes of players of today, the players who have come before them and the players that will have this opportunity in the future.”
