Garcia and Ortiz Named SSC Players of the Week
For the fourth week in a row, Nova Southeastern University features two student-athletes winning the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week award in their respective sports.
Daniela Ortiz (Sr., Morelia, Mexico) was the Pirate Women’s Invitational medalist as the Sharks took the team title in Pooler, Ga. She shot a first round 3-under-par 69 and won by two strokes with a 145 total. The then-No. 5 NSU squad defeated three teams ranked ahead of them in a field of 16, and has since moved to No. 2 in the nation according to Golfstat.
Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) wins his second SSC Player of the Week award after leading the No. 8 Sharks baseball team to a 4-0 record, with a win over Felician College and three wins against the No. 14 Saint Leo Lions. Garcia hit a home run in each of the first three games of the week, while compiling ten RBI. In game two of the three-game series against Saint Leo, Garcia hit three home runs to propel NSU to a 15-11 victory. He now leads the SSC in home runs with eight on the year.
