Freedman Takes Home Title at Jones/Doherty Amateur Championship
Nova Southeastern University women’s golfer Jamie Freedman took home the First Flight title at the 84th Ione D. Jones/Doherty Women’s Amateur Championship held at Coral Ridge Country Club.
Freedman (So., Miami Beach, Fla.) topped Natalie McNicholas (4&3) to advance to the championship, where she defeated Connie Isler, 9&8 to win the amateur First Flight. The prestigious event is one of the oldest amateur tournaments in the nation.
“This week was a big learning experience for me, and I’m very happy with where my game is headed,” said Freedman. “I started out rough in the beginning, and eventually played my way into form with a lot of new equipment. Spring season is around the corner, and I’m looking forward to having a great year with the rest of my teammates.”
To that end, the spring opener for the NSU women’s team is Feb. 7-8 in St. Augustine, Florida, at Flagler’s World Golf Invitational.
