Free Health Screenings Offered at 10th Annual FOMA-NSU Health Fair Apr.11
NSU will offer free health screenings for more than 1,000 children and adults on Apr. 11. The NSU Health Fair for Children & Adults, sponsored by NSU’s Health Professions Division and the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Student District Society, will offer cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes (glucose) screenings. Walgreens will also be on site to assist in screenings. The fair will offer the public a chance to learn about health care services provided by osteopathic physicians, optometrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, psychologist, and other health-care providers.
Also, experts in pediatrics, geriatrics, family medicine, public health, nutrition, smoking cessation, and others will be at the event. Holy Cross community outreach will provide a mobile unit for rapid HIV screenings. Florida Kid Care will be assisting with applications for health insurance for children from birth to 18 years of age and the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program will provide information about access to a variety of governmental assistance programs. “NSU students and faculty will use their knowledge and expertise to provide important health screenings to the community,” said Ronald Bekic, D.O., assistant professor of family medicine in NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and director of the event.
The Davie Fire Department will be on hand to greet children, giving them a rare opportunity to meet real local heroes. There will be a bounce house for the children, music and food. There will also be an opportunity to donate blood and sign up to be an organ donor. The NSU-FOMA Annual Health Fair is proud to have been awarded the American Osteopathic Foundation’s Student Initiative Grant for the event this year. The health fair will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Tower Shops/Home Depot Shopping Plaza on University Drive between Nova Drive and Interstate 595.
