Forensic Anthropologist, Bones Producer Kathy Reichs to Speak at NSU, Feb. 6

Kathy Reichs, Ph.D.

As part of its Distinguished Speakers Series, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will welcome to campus Kathy Reichs, Ph.D., a forensic anthropologist, bestselling author, and producer of the television series Bones. The talk, hosted by the college’s Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences, relates to the college’s annual academic theme of “Life and Death.”

Kathy Reichs, Ph.D. | Distinguished Speakers Series
Wednesday, Feb. 6
7:00 p.m.
Miniaci Performing Arts Center

One of only 88 forensic anthropologists ever certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology, Reichs is a member of the National Police Services Advisory Council in Canada and has served on the Board of Directors and as vice president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

From teaching FBI agents how to detect and recover human remains, to separating and identifying commingled body parts in her Montreal lab, Reichs has used her work experience to inform her popular, forensic fictional thrillers.

Her first novel, Déjà Dead, became a New York Times bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. In 2010, Reichs launched the Virals series of young-adult novels. She is also a producer of the television series Bones, which is based on her work and her books.

Reichs has traveled to Rwanda to testify at the UN Tribunal on Genocide and helped exhume a mass grave in Guatemala. As part of her work at Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, formerly the Central Identification Laboratory, Hawaii, Reichs aided in the identification of the dead from World War II, Korea, and Southeast Asia.
