Fischler’s Second Annual School Choice Conference Brings Experts Together on School Reform Issues
NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler School of Education recently hosted its 2nd Annual International School Choice and Reform Academic Conference, aimed at creating synergies to lead to new collaborations between academic scholars at universities, “think tanks” and professional associations in the United States and internationally.
Experts on educational reform and school choice issues from as far away as Saudi Arabia and South Korea and as close as the James Madison Institute in Tallahassee Florida gathered to uncover the latest trends in school choice accountability, the burgeoning business of charter schools, issues of religion and government in school choice and reform, school choice options such as magnet schools, virtual learning, and the power of parents. Organizations representing various forms of school choice presented research in their area, such as magnet schools by Magnet Schools of America and virtual education by the International Association for On-line K-12 Learning.
David B. Ross, Ed.D., Educational and Organizational Leadership Program Professor at NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler School of Education, attended the conference as a chair and discussant.
“I was impressed by the collaboration of numerous educators from many countries as well as nationally,” he said. “I recommend this conference for all educators and leaders to be exposed to new topics for discussion and research.”
Conference sponsors included the major foundations which support research on school choice and education reform such as The Walton Family Foundation, The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice, the William E. Simon Foundation, the Alliance for School Choice, and the Heritage Foundation.
This year’s conference is presented by The Journal of School Choice, the National Institute for Educational Options, and NSU’s Fischler School of Education.
