Fischler Student Founds Non-Profit Organization
Cheryl White, doctoral candidate at the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education, recently launched a non-profit organization, Family In Distress, Inc., at Camillus House, and Miami Rescue Missions. The purpose of Family In Distress is to host honest discussions about life’s challenges. The meetings are designed to bring together community members in an effort to help them understand the commonalities they share in life’s perplexities.
Future group meetings will be held every Wednesday at Miami Rescue Missions, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Camillus House. The meetings are designed to bring together community members in an effort to help them understand the commonalities they share in life’s perplexities.
As founder and CEO, White notes, “Our values, mission, and goals are similar to many other support groups; however, Families In Distress, Inc., uses holistic means to create synergy among group members by sharing personal challenges, strengths, and victories with those needing a safe, non-judgmental place to love, care, listen and support each other. Facilitators help assist families to build stronger unity in the community by engaging them to tap into their spiritual, mental and physical well being.”
White expresses special thanks to Dana Mills, Ph.D., executive dean at the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education, and Elda Kanzki-Veloso, Ph.D., program professor of Applied Research at Fischler School, who act as advisors to the organization.
