Fischler School Sponsors 35 Scholarships Through the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers
NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services and the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers (FFMT) scholarship program continues its tradition of offering scholarships to qualified minority students. This partnership has entered its 13th year, and was established in response to Florida Legislators mandate to meet the needs of Florida’s changing demographics.
Fischler’s Undergraduate Teacher Education Program currently has 35 students who are receiving scholarship funds to help them defray the costs of attending college. This year’s FFMT recruitment and retention conference, “Creating Classrooms Where Dreams Come True,” will be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami on April 4-5. More than 800 attendees will include: educators, scholars, community college students, district recruiters and institutional contacts. The weekend is scheduled to have numerous workshops designed for scholars as well as professional development sessions.
This conference serves as mandatory professional development for the recipients of the Minority Teacher Education Scholarship offered through the FFMT. The conference also serves a dual purpose in recruiting minority students into the education field from community colleges throughout the state of Florida and providing all 67 school districts in Florida an opportunity to recruit in one location, for high-quality and highly qualified minority teachers.
