Fischler School Faculty Member Invited as Panelist on DESE-sponsored Anchor Standards Development Panel

Matthew Delaney, Ed.D.

Matthew M. Delaney, Ed.D., National Board Certified Teacher Dissertation Chair and adjunct professor at the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education, was invited to serve as a panelist with the WestEd* Anchor Standards Development Team, in partnership with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

The panel was charged with establishing High School Technology Literacy Anchor Standards for public comment as part of the District Determined Measures (DDMs) for Educator Evaluation Impact Ratings for the DESE. The DESE reported,

“These measures are a critical component of the educator evaluation system in providing educators in all grades and subjects with data about their students’ growth. The goal is for districts to implement DDMs for teachers in all grades and subjects . . . to determine an Impact Rating for each educator.”

Delaney was also was asked to participate in the discussions and recommendations setting standards for High School Engineering Technology. He was selected based upon his experience and expertise to develop “High Priority” anchor standards that identify higher-level standards, meaning that more discrete learning objectives could be incorporated under each of them.”  The expectation is for these standards to reflect the National Education Technology Standards and they are deemed to contain “absolutely essential knowledge, content, or abilities for students to be deemed proficient in the area of technology literacy.”
