Fischler School of Education Student Receives Outstanding Mentor of the Year Award
Abraham S. Fischler School of Education undergraduate student Simone Graham is a perfect example of how one dedicated and committed individual can positively impact the lives of many. Graham is a participant in the America Reads/America Counts program, a Federal Work Study program at Nova Southeastern University. This dedicated tutor works with 25 students who have been identified with deficiencies in their reading development. The selected students formed an immediate connection with the tutor, encouraged by her warm and caring manner.
Due to her positive influence, each student in her group has demonstrated gains in reading ability and comprehension. The students are excited to work with Graham and she makes sure that she not only follows the format of the program but also ensures that each student’s needs are met. The positive energy the students exert in her presence is evident when they return to the classroom and teachers and parents can attest to the value she brings to Tropical Elementary in Plantation, FL.
