Ferro Series Featured Pop-Up Art at Alvin Sherman Library
Fans of all ages recently met noted pop-up book creator Chuck Fischer and children’s book illustrator Henry Cole at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center during “The Art of Illustration” on April 25.
The day featured a unique paper-art creation project for ages 7-12, with an additional arts-based activity provided by the Youth Services Librarians for younger children. There was also a “meet the artists” book signing for all ages, with work by Fischer and Cole available for purchase.
Fischer is best known for his imaginative collectable books including, In the Beginning, Christmas Around the World, Christmas in New York, Great American Houses and Gardens, and The White House. Cole is the noted author and illustrator of Jack’s Garden, On Meadowview Street, Trudy, I Took a Walk and On the Way to the Beach and is also the illustrator of more than 25 children’s books.
“The Art of Illustration” was part of the Alvin Sherman Library’s Ferro Fine Arts Series, in partnership with NSU’s Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale. The Ferro Fine Art Series, sponsored by the Charles P. Ferro Foundation, has featured several free innovative programs during the 2008-2009 season including lyric opera, stunning live flamenco and vibrant ballet.
The next event in the Ferro Series will be the Momentum Dance Company’s performance of Mark Twain’s Jumping Frog of Calaveras County on Saturday, May 16. Please click here for more information.
