FCE Graduate Volunteers with the Red Cross to Aid in Louisiana Disaster Relief
John Baker, 1980 doctorate of education graduate from NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education, recently volunteered with Red Cross after being deployed as a mental health counselor to assist with the flooding relief in Louisiana. His efforts included listening to the stories of those affected by the disaster, changing the diapers of a man who was no longer able to care for himself, and playing with hide and seek and football with the local children. He is no stranger to relief efforts as he has volunteered with the Red Cross for over 40 years, with the past 20 as a mental health counselor.
The 75 year old Baker is currently retired, and has many years of experience in the community college system having worked in California and Washington, serving in faculty and administrative position.
