NSU Alumni Spotlight: NSU’s Fischler College of Education Graduate President of Warren Community College Earns National CEO Award

William Austin, Ed.D.

William Austin, Ed.D.

William Austin, Ed.D., graduate of NSU’s Fischler College of Education, was recently named the recipient of the Association of Community College Trustees’ (ACCT) 2017 Northeast Regional Chief Executive Officer Award.

For the past 12 years, Austin has been the President of Warren County Community College (WCCC). Under his leadership, WCCC doubled the credit enrollment, doubled the non-credit enrollment, and increased the physical footprint and space of the college by over 130%.  Continued growth is on the way, as plans for an expansion to one of the campuses is expected to be completed within a year.

Austin’s most significant accomplishment at WCCC to date is the VIPER (Veterans in Pursuit of Educational Readiness) program. VIPER has gained national attention for its ability to let veterans seamlessly gain their associates degrees.

Last year, Austin assumed the role of the Chair of the New Jersey Council of Community College Presidents, a group that meets regularly to focus on issues and trends facing community colleges in the state. Additionally, this past year, Austin served as chair of the American Association of Community College’s President’s Academy and its Executive Committee.

Austin earned his Doctorate of Education from the Fischler College of Education in 2000.
