FCE Graduate Featured on Local 10 for his Foster Work

FCE Graduate Featured on Local 10 for his Foster Work

William Preswood, a graduate of NSU’s Fischler College of Education was recently featured on Local 10’s story about the Children’s Trust Miami Heart Gallery. The Children’s Trust Miami Heart Gallery is a web-based, museum-quality exhibit featuring portraits of children in Miami-Dade’s foster care system who are eligible for adoption.

William started fostering over ten years ago when one of his students came into the Foster Care System. Since then, he has fostered over 100 teens, adopted 5, and is in the process of adopting two more children. He has taught at Miami Beach High and Miami Community Charter School; in the Fall he will begin teaching at Somerset Academy in Homestead.

In 2013, he was recognized as Foster Parent of the Year for Miami Dade and Monroe County by OurKids. He is active in mentoring new foster parents and an active member of foster/adoptive parent support groups at the state and local level.

He graduated from the Fischler College of Education with an educational specialist degree in 2009 and is currently enrolled in their doctorate of education program.
