FCE Celebrates Black History Month by Collecting Dolls for Children in Haiti
The faculty and staff at NSU’s Fischler College of Education (FCE) celebrated Black History Month by collecting all shades of beautiful black dolls for the FONDASYON FELICITEE in Tabarre, Haiti; which is run by Bayyinah Bello – an icon on women issues. Charlene Desir, Ed.D., Associate Professor, Department of Higher Educational and Instructional Technology coordinated the collection at FCE.
The inaugural event of the disbursement of the dolls occurred on March 17. With FCE’s collection, 203 dolls were handed out to the girls. It was an all-day event that included traditional Haitian games, talks with young girls about being proud of their race, color, and identity. There were also panels of Haitian psychologist and educators who spoke to the girls throughout the day and provided workshops for parents and teachers.
