FCE Alumnus publishes book, “I Can’t Save You, But I’ll Die Trying: The American Fire Culture

Book The American Fire CultureBurton Clark, Ed.D.,EFO, graduate of the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education, is the author of a new book entitled, I Can’t Save You, But I’ll Die Trying: The American Fire Culture. The book received the 2016 Pinnacle Award for Best Book in the Cultural Essay category from the National Association of Book Entrepreneurs. In addition, Dr, Clark’s book was gifted to every member of the 114 U.S. Congress by the Fire Apparatus Manufactures Association and the Fire and Emergency Manufactures and Services Association during National Fire Prevention week 2016.

Burton has been in the fire service for 46 years. He was a firefighter in Washington DC, Assistant Fire Chief in Laurel, Maryland, the Management Science Program Chair at the National Fire Academy, an Operations Chief during national disasters and emergencies for the DHS/FEMA, an Expert Technical Reviewer for the CDC National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program, and a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University Center for Injury Research and Policy. He received his Ed.D. in Adult Education from NSU in 1990.
