Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Welcomes New Faculty Members
This fall, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences welcomes eight new faculty members, joining the college’s more than 140 full-time faculty members. Each brings to NSU noteworthy academic experience, both inside and outside of the classroom, in a variety of fields and interests. Over the next two weeks, the names and biographies of these new faculty members will be shared in SharkBytes.
This week, the college introduces (in alphabetical order):
Emilola Abayomi, Ph.D., assistant professor
Emilola Abayomi earned her M.S. in Biostatistics and Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Florida State University in 2009 and 2012, respectively. She served as an instructor of mathematics at FSU from 2009 to 2012, and has taught a variety of statistics and math courses at the undergraduate level. Abayomi most recently worked as a data analyst with Smartronix–Marine Corps Logistics in Albany, Georgia. She has presented several research papers in the areas of biostatistics, has attended a number of professional conferences, and is a member of the American Statistical Association.
Jeffery Doeringer, M.S., instructor
Jeffrey Doeringer earned his M.S. in Recreation and Sports Sciences from Ohio University in 2008. He expects to complete his Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science from Oregon State University in August 2013. Doeringer has published a number of research papers and given several presentations in the areas of athletic training and exercise sciences. His research covers the sensory and motor systems of the human body and their mechanisms for the promotion of human movement, physical activity, and injury prevention.
Mir Saleem, M.D., instructor
Mir Saleem earned his M.D. from Kabul University in Afghanistan in 1990 and his M.S. from the University of British Columbia in 2003. In 1998, he earned an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates Certificate, part of U.S. Medical Licensing Exam. In 2002, he also received a Medical Council of Canada Evaluation Exam Certificate. From 2009 to 2013, Saleem served as an associate professor at St. Matthew’s University in the Cayman Islands and, from 2003 to 2005, as a professor at Saba University School of Medicine. Saleem has more than 13 years of teaching experience and has received a number of teaching awards from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine.
Molly Scanlon, Ph.D., assistant professor
Molly Scanlon earned her Ph.D. in English, with a specialization in rhetoric and writing, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She also holds an M.A. in English, with a specialization in rhetoric and composition, from the University of Maryland. Scanlon’s research and teaching interests include multimodal literacy, collaborative composition, visual rhetoric, and the rhetoric of comics.
